Conversion technology

Is a “self desiccating pelletising system” which converts wet and fine waste feedstock into dry, tough, water resistant spherical pellets that could be subsequently used as a fuel.

It is the universal truth that utilising sustainable energy resources is the only way to the future. At present biomass fuels are derived almost exclusively from wood pellets.

But the reality is that this process is not sustainable at the volume required by mankind. There are not enough trees to fulfill the energy requirements.

The solution has been obvious for a while: we need to use ALL biomass as fuel source.
The core problem with this ideal is the moisture content of the biomass.

Technology
overview

To produce a pellet a specifically designed process plant is required. The process plants can consist of shredding, grinding, mixing, pelletising and desiccating systems. Most feedstock will be required to be pre-treated to enable a level of homogeneity. Moisture and our proprietary desiccating binder is controlled precisely within the closed loop control system to ensure optimum results.

Our plants are for up to 50 tonnes per hour (per line). Duplicate lines increase tonnage if required to whatever throughput a client may require, giving significant redundancy and operational flexibility.

Our plants are engineered to be tough, flexible and highly reliable with very low operating costs and have an engineering life cycle of ~25 years

The complete process consumes ~20-30kWhrs of electrical power per tonne of dry product with zero energy expended upon drying of the product.

Pellet desiccation generally takes 7 to 21 days depending upon pellet diameter and starting moisture content, this enables the processing plant to generate cash flow 2 to 4 weeks from commissioning.

Delivery ex-works is 12-16 weeks, with commissioning of the modular equipment in 10-14 days. Basic infrastructure is required, and only requires a concrete slab and rudimentary cover over some of the pellet stockpiles during the desiccation phase.

Operations at this scale require 3-4 semi-skilled operators per shift, and our plants are designed to operate continuously ~8000+ hrs per year.

The market for bio-energy fuels is truly enormous with both a vast nascent supply and a vast demand! The problem is that large amounts of bio-waste is high in moisture, bulky, difficult to handle and costly to transport.

Our technology is unique, as it enables a wide range of potential bio-based fuel stocks presently un-utilised to be realised as high energy and high value fuels.

Due to the scalability of our technology, we are capable of processing large tonnages globally and due to the unique design of our processing plants the processing can be done locally, thus eliminating many of the obstacles to large scale conversion of bio-waste resources.

The target market for our technology is the global wood pellet market which is expected to grow continuously in both industrial and domestic applications.

Global Wood Pellet Production

Global demand in 2016 was 28 Mt of wood pellets valued at ~US$ 120 /metric tonne or US$ 3.36 Billion.

Forecasts are that both areas of consumption will grow to ~52Mt /yr by 2021 with an estimated price of US$ 165/tonne or $8.6 Billion in sales.

Our large scale single line plant can process ~500,000 tpa of feedstock to produce ~250,000 tpa of dry (10% moisture) bio-fuel pellets at point source and can supply low CO2 bio-fuels to a wide radius of clients or for export.

Wood pellet spot price

The wood pellet market is both mature and high cost (breakeven = US$60-80/t), with limited available forests to consume at this rate.

However JWinnovo products can replace or supplement wood pellets in every application, but made from any available local biomass and subsequently with much higher margins for our producers.

Business
Development

Converting low value biowaste into high value pellets that can compete with the industry standard wood pellets is an attractive and lucrative business opportunity. The market for solid biofuels is booming, but as it grows there are issues with wide scale clearcut deforestation and other environmental issues that will cause feedstock supply problems in the coming years.

The JWinnovo solution to these issues is to “convert any suitable biomass” into high value pellets, not just wood! The bio-waste can come from multiple sources, can be blended and can be used in multiple applications to generate heat and power.
